At Hortis, we’re always looking for new ways to help you work more efficiently with less effort. Our latest rich text notes feature may seem like a small change at first, but as you explore it further, you’ll discover new levels of flexibility in how you capture and manage information.

Following up on our popular December webinar, we’ve also published an article: “Tips to Revitalize Your Plant Collection Data.” Be sure to check it out for practical insights on keeping your records fresh and valuable.

Additionally, our latest user survey revealed that 40% of our users discovered Hortis through referrals and word of mouth—an incredible testament to our community. A huge thank you to everyone who has shared their experience with others! Your support helps us grow and continue to improve.

Introducing “Rich Text Notes”

When it comes to recording unstructured information, notes are invaluable. That’s why we’ve dedicated considerable effort to enhancing how notes can be used more effectively—and we’re thrilled to introduce our new “Rich Text Notes” feature!

With this update, taxa, accession, and plant material notes in Hortis now support basic formatting options you’d expect, including lists, headers, and text emphasis. But that’s just the beginning. You can also link to external documents—such as permits, assessments, and invoices—ensuring all relevant information is easily accessible.

However, there is more! You can now reference taxa, accessions, and plant material records directly within your notes. Simply type @ and select the record you want to link to. This makes it easier than ever to keep your data connected and contextualized.

For example, an accession note might now look like this:

Your notes can now be more expressive and informative than ever, giving you greater flexibility in capturing and organizing information.
